School Arc:

The main character. A second-year high school student who’s in the literature club. He just wants to sit back and read books through school... is what he tells people, but he secretly wants to write a novel. He has lots that he’s written without telling anyone else, but he has yet to complete it. He works part-time at "BIBLIO CAFE," a bookstore-cafe by the train station. He likes motorcycles, and just recently convinced his parents to let him buy one.

After Arc:

Now 25 years old. A beginner editor working at the smallish publishing company, Yotsuba Publishing. He tried to apply for the newcomer novelist awards while continuing with creative writing during his university years, but after being faced with the limits of his own ability, chose to move on to the path of an editor. He’s in charge of "Real Talk NOW," a weekly magazine aimed toward a blue-collar audience. He’s starting to lose zeal for his work because of the disparity between his expectations and reality, as well as the fact that he’s stuck in a rut for the novel he’s writing in his free time as a hobby.

A transfer student who came to the main character’s school at the end of his first year, which made for strange timing. Rumors say she was forced to transfer out from her previous school in Tokyo after causing problems there.
Tardiness and leaving early are par for the course for her, and she gets put into protective custody often when people catch her roaming the city at night. She’s usually asleep during class because of that.
She seems distant, but she’s unexpectedly bright and cheery when you actually talk to her. She’s a carefree person, and people have a hard time dealing with her completely crazy behavior.
She acts unusually intimate with people, which often leads to misunderstandings. She frequently claims to have a secret, but she never tells what that is. Well-versed in knowledge specific to strange subcultures.

An upperclassman at the main character’s school, and a member of the same literature club as him. She’s popular among both boys and girls for her quiet demeanor and sense of refinement.
Her role in the literature club is solely to read, and she gives excellent feedback and criticism for the writing of other club members.
She knows a lot about a lot of things from all the reading she does, but that knowledge doesn’t necessarily translate to actual ability. Regardless, everyone around her considers her "a very capable" woman from her bearing and the feeling she gives off in general.
She herself just wants to be interacted with normally. She keeps a daily diary on an old-school social networking website.

A girl in the same year as the main character at his school. She’s a blonde girl who’s half-American from her father’s side. Both of her parents have already passed away, and she currently lives alone at her maternal grandmother’s house.
She has high IQ, and is particularly skilled in regards to computers and network management. She doesn’t have much in the way of social ability due to being a shut-in that plays video games all day, and will often either say cringey things that a middle-schooler would say or speak like a highly intellectual *****.
She’s not one to really admit it, but she’s actually quite lonely, and longs for a warm family.
